Jake and Tom Conquer the World

On this week's episode, Tom and a slightly tipsier than normal Jake go through quite a variety of topics, including a question of barroom etiquette, the food that Tom finds oddly disgusting, the reveal of Joaquin Phoenix's "Joker" costume, the odd controversy surrounding Batman's most important sidekick, as well as a better alternative to DC's proposed "Supergirl" movie.

All of this, however, is before the heart of the episode.

For years, now, Jake has been tormented by Tom in an attempt to make him watch movies outside of his comfort zone.  But for this episode, the tables are turned as Tom watches a movie he's spent a quarter of a century avoiding: 1993's "Demolition Man", starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes & Sandra Bullock.

So hit the "play" button and listen in to find out if Tom thinks the movie deserves it's reputation as a beloved piece of 90's nostalgia, or if he thought it was a piece of something else.

Sorry folks, no new episode this week, as Tom decided to take a week off to celebrate both his birthday & wedding anniversary!

But that doesn't mean there isn't anything new to listen to, as the guys dust off another episode of Wizard Rewind!

On this edition, Tom is joined by Nick from the world famous "Epic Film Guys" podcast, as well as the equally notable "RestauRant" podcast!  He came aboard to crack open Wizard Magazine's 2005 "Mega Movie Issue", featuring stories on the films that turned out to be th estarting point of the current film age we're still witnessing today, including Christopher Nolan's first "Batman" movie, Sam Raimi's third "Spider-Man" movie, and Tom Cruise's upcoming "Iron Man" movie (yes, you read that right).

Be sure to check out Nick's shows wherever finer podcasts are found, as well as Tom & his friend Peter's continuing coverage of Cobra Kai, over on the show "Tv Ate My Brain"!

Jake is away this week so he can celebrate his 40th birthday.  So Tom decided to break out the big guns:
Joining him once again for this episode is Matt from the dearly departed "Couch Party" podcast, as well as the legendary Ranty Bastard, former host of the greatly missed "Retail Rant".

Today, the guys are delving deep into the internet and are settling the stupidest debates the can find.

"How stupid?", you ask?

They're stupid enough to wonder if a hot dog is a sandwich.  They ponder the idea of cereal being a soup.  They even try to figure out whether a baby can be considered a vegan if they're fed breast milk.

Y'see...?  It really does get that stupid.

But it was also a helluva lotta fun.  So hit the play button & get ready to laugh at three supposedly grown men as they argue the merits of proper toilet paper etiquette.

This is a pretty fun episode -

After a brief roundup of geek news & Jake's rebuttal on an episode he had to miss, the guys continue their series of odd chats.

In this one, the guys imagine a conversation held between their current selves, as well as their teenage & elderly doppelgangers.

How would these various versions of themselves get along?  What would they warn their younger selves about?  What technology would they give them hints about?  And more importantly, who would get slapped first?

Jake is outta town this week, so Tom has recruited his good friends from the dearly departed Couch Party Podcast to help him out!

Listen in as Tom, Matt & HAB recount the hedonistic days of their youth, before diving into the latest geek headlines.  Topics covered include whether or not the "Star Wars" franchise is in crisis mode and if Kathleen Kennedy should removed as the head of Lucasfilm, who the hell thinks a Morbius movie is a good idea and can Sony's "Spider-Verse" be saved at this point, and is DC's streaming service gonna be another letdown, and can these old men deal with today's comic book stores?

And, of course, since this is a full blown Couch Party reunion, the show just wouldn't be complete without a look into America's own Thunderdome, as the guys go over bizarre headlines from HAB's adopted homeland of Florida!

Jake and Tom decided to try something a little different this week.  Instead of their usual topics which center around the world of comics, movies, television and whatnot, they decided to engage in a series of what they like to call "campfire chats".

We've all been there.  We get together with our friends, drinks are being passed around, and we let the conversation take us where it may

Some of this chart are pretty standard for this podcast, such as the dangers of Disney becoming too big of a company, or if the world really needs this many "Star Wars" movies.  Other subjects, well...  They're kinda oddball, but they're still a lotta  fun.

"How oddball", you ask?  Well, the guys go on to debate such topics as what kind of real world effects teleportation would have, and whether or not film and television actors are becoming an obsolete profession.

Like we said, it's kind of an oddball show, but the guys had a lotta fun recording it!  In fact, if you wanna suggest topics of your own, feel free to submit them to drunkendorkpodcast@gmail.com

Jake and Tom are kinda winging it this week, and have decided to do a little bit of housecleaning with some of the subjects they've been meaning to talk about.

This includes a brief review of the Star Wars spinoff, "Solo", an even briefer review of "Deadpool 2", the most recent behind the scenes shakeups at the DCEU, what they're hoping for out of "Wonder Woman: 1984", "Green Lantern Corps" "Blackhawk", the individual "Joker" movies, as well as the recent rumors about DC's streaming service.  Plus, Jake gives his opinions on the end of "Legion", the beginning of "Cloak and Dagger", Andrew Lincoln pulling the escape hatch from the "Walking Dead", and why no one should care about the upcoming "Spawn" movie!

Unfortunately, due to a family emergency, there will be no new episode of Jake and Tom this week.

But that doesn't mean there's nothing for their loyal listeners to hear, as the guys polish off another episode of "PodFix Presents: Wizard Rewind"!

Listen in and journey back with the guys to the distant year of 2005.  It was a time when DC Comics was announcing the start of their "52" and "All-Star" projects, utilizing the talents of creators like Frank Miller, Jim Lee, Grant Morrison, and Frank Quietly.  The hottest show on television, "Lost", was finally arriving on DVD.  There were rumblings of beloved director Joss Whedon taking on a "Wonder Woman" movie, "V For Vendetta" was storming the box office.  And the morality of superheroes was being called into question.

Have you ever experienced one of those things that you didn't know how much you wanted it until you had it in your hands?

Jake and Tom had just such an experience with the show, "Cobra Kai".  Being children of the 80's & 90's, they of course grew up with the saga of Daniel Larusso, and so they were naturally a little hesitant to see the story continue after almost 30 years.  As such, they brought in the friends, Peter (host of the excellent "Podstalgic") to discuss what they wanted from s show showing Johnny Lawrence's side of the story.

Flash forward almost two months, and the guys reconvened to discuss what has surprisingly turned out to be one of their favorite new shows of the year.  Listen in to find out what they thought of where the classic characters have wound up, what they think of the the new characters, and why Coors Banquet is such an awful beer.

And for more extensive coverage of Cobra Kai, head over & listen to TV Ate My Brain for Peter & Tom's in depth analysis of each individual episode, interviews with members of the show's cast, and much more!

Joining Jake and Tom this is week is one half of The Epic Film Guys, Nick Haskins.  He came by to help the guys sort out the mess that is the DCEU.

Listen in as the guys ask themselves what they would do to fix it, how they'd change the "look and feel" of the franchise, which characters would be recast, who they'd want to see behind the camera, as well as which properties they'd like to see developed.

Along the way, Jake and Tom also ask Nick to discuss his upcoming project, which will benefit the Cancer Research Institute.  To find out how you can help, please visit his website, LiveStream For The Cure.

Over the years, Jake and Tom have grown to be pretty big fans of the collaborations between Netflix & Marvel.  So when the time came to review the first new episode of Jessica Jones in three years, the guys decided to break out their microphones & give it their "Before and After Review" treatment!

Along the way, they made sure to spend a little time on some of the bigger geek news, including Jake's anticipation for the launch of a new RPG system, casting announcements on the small screen adaptation of Garth Ennis's "The Boys", DCEU contract negotiations, Jake's growing hatred of leaked photos, and Tom's continued frustration over the way a certain comic book "artist" keeps failing upward.

Join Jake and Tom as they take another dive into the news bag to talk about all the latest developments in the world of geek culture!

Among the stories the guys cover, Joss Whedon exits the "Batgirl" movie, Kristen Wiig is in talks to co-star in the new "Wonder Woman" movie, DC makes announcements regarding their online television shows, Marvel releases a trailer for one of their upcoming small screen projects, and a nerd icon has a brush with death.

Then after the break, the guys return for one of their retro reviews, in which the tables are reversed!  For years now, Tom has subjected Jake to movies that fall outside of his wheelhouse.  But now it's his turn to sit down and watch something he'd otherwise never give a chance, as they finish out the show by sharing their thoughts on the 2004 Disney film, "National Treasure"!

What you're about to listen to this week is something special.

Literally for YEARS now, Tom has been wanting to produce a podcast dedicated to the now defunct Wizard Magazine, but due to time and scheduling issues, he just never had the chance.

And then along comes one of Jake and Tom's partners in internet radio, The PodFix Network.

They needed content to fill their weekly show, "PodFix Presents", and not wanting to let the opportunity pas by, Tom leaped at the chance to finally pursue his passion project.

And here it is:  The first in a six part season of "Wizard Rewind", in which your hosts are joined by fellow PodFixer Chris (of the excellent podcast, More Gooder Than) to look back on and discuss Wizard Issue 36.

Topic in the magazine range from then-upcoming books from Joe Quesada's Event Comics, the beginning of Marvel's "Spider Clone" saga, behind the scenes news on the movie that became "Batman Forever", as well as a hidden surprise in the letter column.

Now - after you finish listening to this episode, head on over to www.podfixnetwork.com to catch the rest of this season of Wizard Rewind, and more importantly, the rest of the networks lineup!  There, you'll find all kinds of great shows to cover all of your pop culture needs!

Yet another Super Bowl is in the books.  But, as you can probably guess, Jake and Tom couldn't give a rat's hairy ass about sportsball.

What they DO care about, however, are movie trailers.  And this Super Bowl was packed to the face mask with them!  So huddle up and listen in as the guys give you their impressions on the footage shown for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Avengers: Infinity War, Mission Impossible VI, Westworld: Season 2, and The Cloverfield Paradox!

Uh-Oh...

Jake is laid up this week, a victim of a knee that, in the words of his doctor, "Looks like sh!t".

So, unfortunately, there will be no new episode of "Jake and Tom Conquer the World".

But, because Jake and Tom don't wanna leave their audience in the lurch, what you'll be getting instead will be an episode comprised of the best bits left on the "cutting room floor".  In them, the guys and their guests go over previous topics such as well wishes for a fellow podcaster's upcoming wedding, Netflix's "The Defenders", the future of the streaming industry, predictions about Star Wars & Shazam, as well as the consequences of Jake's experiments with the game of golf!

If there's one thing comic book fans like more than superheroes, it's getting into petty arguments with one another.  And on today's show, Jake and Tom have decided to settle the biggest debates in all of comic fandom!

Inspired by a random comment from Epic Film Guy Nick and an old article from the blog, Comic Cube, Jake and Tom are trying to figure out the worthiness of Superman's underwear, which Flash is the best, whether or not Batman should ever be happy, as well aswho would beat who in a fight.

Every once and awhile, Tom tries to expand Jake's cinematic horizons by introducing him to movies he might not otherwise watch.  Every once and awhile, such as the time he had Jake watch "The Shawshank Redemption", Jake discovers a movie he greatly enjoys.  Usually, though, he ends up cursing Tom out for making him waste an hour and a half of his life, such as when they reviewed "They Live".

This time around, however, Tom has recruited friend of the show HAB (formerly of the Couch Party Podcast), to convince Jake why he should appreciate the dark Western, "Bone Tomahawk".  This movie is filled with thing Jake loves: Gunslingers, Heroes & Damsels in Distress, all with a light touch of horror.

Did Tom finally find another movie that Jake will like, or will Jake wanna leap through his microphone & box Tom's ears?  You"ll only find out if you listen...
